5 Years of RedSail Technologies: Learning from our Past to Guide the Future

Five years ago, RedSail Technologies was born from a bold vision: to empower pharmacies with the technological tools, support, and innovation they need to thrive. Today, we celebrate not just our anniversary, but the journey that’s brought us here—and the people who’ve made it possible.

We sat down with our Chief Strategy and Administrative Officer, Frances Nahas, to reflect on RedSail’s origin, growth, and future.

Q: Please tell us the origin story of RedSail Technologies. Why were we founded?

Nahas: RedSail was formed in 2020, following the initial acquisition of Smith Technologies (owner of QS/1) and later that year, PioneerRx. We were inspired by the commitment both businesses had to delivering for their customers and innovating in the Pharmacy Management System (PMS) space.

We had watched the pharmacy industry evolve over the prior decade-plus, with significant vertical consolidation. And while delivering feature-rich, easy-to-use PMS and ancillary solutions along with market-leading support was, and remains, core to the mission, we knew it wasn’t enough anymore.

Our goal then, and still today, is to leverage technology to ensure pharmacies have access to the tools, clinical opportunities, and financial solutions that will enable them not only to provide the best possible care to their patients, but to do so in a way that is financially sustainable over the long term, regardless of their size.

And our team has continued to grow over the last five years, having added BestRx, TransactRx, and Emporos to the RedSail family.

Q: What was the original vision for RedSail Technologies and how has it evolved over time?

Our original vision had two parts. First, it was to deliver market-leading PMS and ancillary solutions to pharmacies that would enable them to care for their patients in whatever way was best in their individual markets. Our goal has been to ensure any pharmacy has the tools it might need to provide top-notch care in their market or niche.

Second, our vision was also to leverage that technology to connect those pharmacies to the broader industry, to enable them to access clinical and financial opportunities that might otherwise have only been available to the largest chains.

As we continue to look forward, we are still very much committed to both of those goals, but we’re also excited about the opportunity not just to drive connection and facilitate opportunities for pharmacies, but also to reimagine and transform how our pharmacy industry operates. We are focused not just on building innovative technology, but also on innovating the processes and the way in which our industry operates.

Q: Is there a defining moment from the early days that you can pinpoint now as something that really shaped us?

Absolutely. In January 2021, RedSail Advantage was just an idea on a PowerPoint slide. I remember the meeting where we first discussed its potential impact. That moment marked a turning point—we committed significant resources to building solutions that would truly benefit pharmacies and patients. The investment has become the “Advantage” we bring to our customers, with solutions like: PowerLine, RxAdvantage, RxCash+, RedSail Pay, and Clinical+.

Q: What about RedSail Technologies are you most proud of to date?

I’m proud of our team—their dedication, innovation, and commitment to our customers. Our product, implementation, and support teams are the heart of RedSail, and their work shows in our growing customer network.

I’m proud of our bold investments: re-platforming our pharmacy switch, launching Axys LTC (our cloud-based PMS), and developing new products like Clinical+.

But most of all, I’m proud of the times we’ve said “no.” We evaluate every feature and program by asking: does this help our customers become more clinically advanced or financially sustainable? If not, we walk away. That discipline is core to who we are.

Q: What excites you most about RedSail’s future?

Healthcare can move slowly, but I believe we’re on the edge of real change—driven by recent technological advancements.

I’m excited to help shape that future, especially in how we improve the clinician and patient experience. For too long, technology has felt like a burden to clinicians. But now, we have the chance to flip the script—to make technology a tool that brings pharmacists closer to patient care, not further from it.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate five years of RedSail Technologies, we’re filled with gratitude—for our customers, our team, and the journey we’ve shared. Today, with a network of 12,000+ pharmacies reaching more than 10 million patients monthly, RedSail Technologies is the leader in pharmacy software and services – empowering pharmacy and transforming care. Here’s to the next five years—and beyond.
