Behind the Clinical Alerts: Meet Your RedSail Coaches

When a clinical message pops up in your pharmacy software—maybe it’s about reminding a patient to get vaccinated for shingles or flagging their 45-day+ gap in therapy—there’s more going on than computerized triggers and drug messaging.

These care opportunities represent real-world pharmacy experience put into practice, often by someone who’s stood where you’re standing now.

Meet the RedSail Clinical Coaches: pharmacists whose role is to advise you on clinical opportunities and other RedSail Advantage Solutions (RAS) programs. They’ve walked the aisles of independent pharmacies, counseled patients, and managed staff. They’ve experienced the pressures you face, and now they want to help you navigate them.

Kirsten Hartzell, PharmD

“The value and support that independent pharmacy brings to their local community is deeply personal for me.”

Leading the team is Kristen Hartzell, PharmD, who came to RedSail after 20 years in community pharmacy, many of which were spent developing sustainable clinical programs and offering leadership in CPESN. Kristen understands the stakes—because her family owns an independent pharmacy.

“I see firsthand not only the passion and caring for communities that independent pharmacists bring to their work, but also the daily struggles and challenges they face while continuing to survive in this rapidly evolving healthcare landscape,” she says.

Kristen now works with pharmacies across the country, translating best practices into workflows that work. She says, “I want to be a part of the solution to support the mission to save and revitalize independent pharmacy so we can continue to care for our communities for generations to come.” When she’s not working, she’s wrangling her three kids and three dogs (including a very enthusiastic sock-delivering golden retriever).

Brent Bushnell, MBA, DPh

“I would like people to know that all of us on the team have experience working behind the pharmacy counter.”

Brent Bushnell, MBA, DPh, knows what it’s like to dream of owning your own store—because he did it. After beginning in closed-door pharmacy including LTC and hospice, he became a partner in his community’s independent pharmacy. He joined RedSail in 2024, wanting to stay connected to the industry and support other pharmacy owners. “I would like people to know that all of us on the team have experience working behind the pharmacy counter at some point in our career and as a group we have a diverse knowledge base coming from different backgrounds in all types of pharmacy fields,” he says.

What is Brent’s favorite part of the job? Giving back. “Having worked in independent pharmacy for most of my career, I understand how vital they are to the communities they serve. In today's climate, independent pharmacies need people in their corner. Being with RedSail gives me the opportunity to give back to a profession that gave me so much.” When he’s not helping pharmacies, you can find Brent practicing baseball with his son.

Jasmine Rivera, PharmD, MBA, RPh

“Pharmacies are surprised when we call just to listen.”

Jasmine Rivera, PharmD, MBA, RPh, has worked across the pharmacy spectrum—independent practice, grocery chains, PBMs, health plans—and brings a wide-angle view to every conversation. But for Jasmine, it’s the real-world experience that makes the biggest difference.

As she says, “Many customers are surprised to learn that pharmacists are embedded within the RAS team. Most of us are still ‘boots on the ground’—actively involved in community pharmacy—which helps us stay connected to the realities and challenges faced by independent pharmacies. This perspective allows us to bring practical, relevant insights into the programs and solutions we develop.”

She continues, “Personally, this was one of the main reasons I was excited to join the team. RedSail’s recognition of the value pharmacists bring to the table reflects their commitment to evolving alongside the industry and supporting independent pharmacy in a meaningful way.”

As someone who will do a strenuous hike because the view is always worth it at the top, Jasmine says she “couldn’t pass up the chance to join a team so deeply committed to innovation and service.”

Holden Graves, PharmD

“We've helped recover thousands in missed revenue.”

Holden Graves, PharmD, balances clinical coaching with raising three boys. As a former PioneerRx clinical pharmacist, Holden knows, “Pharmacies are often stretched thin... I help them with everything from prescription processing tweaks to better use of automation features, so they can reduce manual workload, cut down errors, and spend more time with patients.”

His one-on-ones with pharmacies can uncover simple wins that mean a lot. “One major area has been vaccine billing,” Holden shares. “Pharmacies are often unaware that incorrect coding and billing practices lead to missed reimbursements. By identifying these gaps and educating staff on proper billing procedures, we've helped recover thousands in missed revenue.”

Megan Scott, PharmD

“I love independent pharmacy!”

Megan Scott, PharmD, brings 15 years of experience running clinical services inside independent pharmacy—and a perspective shaped by life with four kids and a garden full of energy. She knows what it takes to get things done in a busy store and believes strongly in the role of community pharmacy.

“I’m passionate about helping not only pharmacies, but people. That’s what I love about independent pharmacy,” she says.

Megan is quick to roll up her sleeves and find practical steps that make care goals less overwhelming and more effective. Mainly, she wants customers to know, “As a pharmacy owner as well, I want your business to succeed as much as my own. I want to provide insight and guidance where I can, so your business thrives!”

Bridgett Smith, RPh

“Education is key to being viable and successful.”

Bridgett Smith, RPh, jokes that she thinks she’s funny (even when no one else laughs). Her lighthearted approach comes from years of experience. “I had the opportunity to do a career pivot after over 20 years as a geriatric pharmacist while still providing patient care in a different capacity,” she says.

Pharmacies who work with Bridgett appreciate her empathy, and she echoes other coaches in hearing that customers are often surprised that she’s a pharmacist. She wants them to know, “RAS is a series of tools to help community pharmacists help their patients through education and reminders for adherence, which will ultimately help their pharmacies.”

Nicole Pezzino, PharmD

“I get to help other pharmacies use technology to make it easier and more efficient.”

Nicole Pezzino, PharmD, has done it all—academic mentoring, community pharmacy innovation, national speaking engagements, even a winning run on The Price Is Right. She’s run more than 60 half marathons in 45 states (and counting), but her true passion is helping pharmacies challenge the status quo.

Nicole says, “While I was working in a community pharmacy, my team and I often talked about how helpful it would be to have a simple way to identify patients who were due for vaccines. Now, through RAS, I get to help other pharmacies do exactly that (full circle moment) using technology to make it easier and more efficient.”

She continues, “One of the most rewarding parts of my role is supporting pharmacies—and importantly, their teams—in ways that are clear, actionable, and centered on patient care. The feedback has been positive! The pharmacies I work with share how much they appreciate having practical tools like videos that make it easier for their teams to engage meaningfully with patients.”

Nicole shares, “At its core, I believe RAS is about equipping pharmacies with the tools and resources they need to deliver quality patient care, identify revenue opportunities, and streamline their impact within the communities they serve.”
